Carly Sheppard

Carly Sheppard (Wallangamma and Takalaka) is a cross-disciplinary performance artist whose work negotiates across dance and theatre performance, sculpture, drawing, voice, and installation. Carly’s work predominantly explores class, and the experience of being a part of the Indigenous diaspora of Australia; intersecting identities and the navigation of personal and collective trans-generational inheritances.

Previous Malthouse Theatre credits include A Nightime Travesty (Co-Creator & Performer) and CHASE (Co-Creator & Performer). 

Other performance credits include Considerable Sexual License (Joel Bray Dance), Anthem (Performing Lines/Arts Centre Melbourne), and Love (Cornelius and Dee). 

Carly received a Green Room Award for Outstanding Production and Outstanding Performance in Experimental Theatre for her work Crackers N Dip With Chase N Toey. Carly also received Green Room Award for Outstanding Performance for Love and a nomination for Outstanding Performance for Anthem. 

Born in 1985, Carly studied Bachelor of Dance at the Victorian College of the Arts, VIC, Diploma of Careers in Dance at National Aboriginal and Islander Skills Development Association, NSW, and Bachelor of Creative Arts at The University of Melbourne, VIC. Carly is an alum of the British Council’s 2015 Accelerate Program and 2021’s Blakform Program run by BlakDance.
