Examines the postwar experiences of two men whose lives and families have been continually affected by the legacy of involvement in an unpopular war. The arrival of a Vietnamese refugee acts as a catalyst to uncover the resentment, violence and guilt still experienced by Vietnam veterans.
From the press release:
"The play was written by Rosemary John who herself knew someone who was changed dramatically by his experience in the war. With director Phil Thomson and the entire Murray River Performing Group ensemble, she spent hours talking to Vets in the Albury/Wodonga area. They went to the Sergeants' Mess at Latchford Barracks, to ANZAC breakfasts, to veterans' homes and to counselling services. What emerged is a play of raw emotion and passion. Based on the stories of the men who fought, it is very much influenced by the harsh reality of their experiences, but it succeeds as an uplifting rather than a depressing night's entertainment because of the humour, strength and intelligence of the soldiers themselves.
"Initially the local veterans were not entirely convinced that the M.R.P.G. supported their views, particularly since there is a Vietnamese refugee in the play. But they were quickly won over by the honesty, dramatic impact and integrity of the production."
